Joining its older siblings – the multi award-winning Singapore Zoo and Night Safari – the River Safari stars state-of-the-art design and one of the world’s most extensive collections of freshwater fauna. The park is home to more than 6,000 animals, including 40 threatened species (and Singapore’s lovable resident giant pandas, Kai Kai and Jia Jia). River Safari is inspired by the world’s most iconic rivers, including the Mississippi, Congo, Nile, Ganges, Mekong and Yangtze rivers – but the backdrop is all Singapore: the pristine Upper Seletar Reservoir. Other items for your attention include Giant Panda Forest, Squirrel Monkey Forest and the Amazon Flooded Forest. Expect to encounter beavers, rare Mississippi paddlefish and primitive alligator gar, the world’s largest freshwater puffer fish, sharp-toothed tigerfish and the many-finned bichir, crocodilian Indian gharial, softshell turtle and many more. In the aquarium, eyeball Mekong catfish and giant freshwater stingray; on the Amazon River Quest, keep your eyes peeled for the spider monkey, Brazilian tapir, and squirrel monkeys. You’ll be hungry after all that wildlife-spotting, so refuel in one of the River Safari’s restaurants – River Safari Tea House or Mama Panda Kitchen, right by the Giant Panda Forest. You can also pick up memorabilia from the two animal-obsessed on-site shops.
